    Thanks for using ATracker!

We have internally discussed the pricing model for long time and our goal is to have a balance of user satisfaction and profitability.

Currently, we want 99% of ATracker paid user only need to pay the base fee and the rest 1% of advanced user pay subscription, and keep the 4.99USD (one time cost) for iOS and 2.99USD (one time cost) for Android version for the PRO.

So majority of the users will enjoy the low entry fee and only the advanced users which will pay more and they are the one who use the app intensively and hopefully they find ATracker worth the cost.

In the meanwhile, we will have enough money to pay for the hosting and enough money to keep developing ATracker.

We allow unlimited basic tag, one Dropdown tag, one numeric tag and 8 active goals for the PRO version currently, as we think majority of users will be satisfied with that.

We might adjust the pricing in future, but currently we just keep the enough subscription income to cover the hosting and maintenance for the server in Microsoft Azure cloud.

Happy new year and thanks for your understanding!

    Best Regards,

    Jian

    Thanks for the response, Jian.

Every company has to strike a balance between user satisfaction and profitability. My point is more about the feature distribution than the actual pricing. You’ve limited Pro to a single dropdown & numeric tag, when a real “Pro” user would almost certainly need more than one of each to make decent use of those tags.

A true balance for your tiered pricing structure would be:

    • Free: a single dropdown and numeric tag
    • Pro: more than one but not unlimited
    • Premium: unlimited, and that’s really just as a bonus to the syncing/web options, which seem like the main feature users are directly paying for with subscription fees.

As a long time Pro user – I’m talking years before you offered Premium – I find the single numeric/dropdown tag limitation in Pro extremely disappointing. It’s even more baffling now that you’ve implemented another new feature in Goals, but you’re allowing eight of those.

If you’re going to limit features, the maximums should at least be consistent; i.e., 8 numeric, 8 dropdown, and 8 goals.

Incidentally, an alternative and appreciative gesture to your longtime users would have been to grandfather us in (with limits) to the new features that don’t require the Microsoft Azure platform, as that platform really seems to be what the Premium subscription payments support.

I’ve used other apps that have gone this route when introducing new features and a subscription model, and it was a pleasant experience that made me more amenable to buying into the top tier.  Quite frankly, in the case of Atracker, I’m less likely to buy in, because the Premium model feels so unbalanced.

To sum up: in terms of user satisfaction vs. bringing in money, this particular Pro user (and I’d wager others, too) would be a lot more satisfied if we had more than one dropdown/numeric tag available to us. And that satisfaction might make us more likely to subscribe and thus bring in more money for you.

Thanks again for the app, and Happy New Year!

We will investigate on increasing the limit for the Drop-down and numeric tag in future ATracker version.

It is very unlikely we will increase the limit to 8 for the PRO version. But it will be more than 1 in future release.

Thanks for the continuous support and happy new year!
